Temporary Skills Shortage Visa (TSS)
The TSS visa has been brought in to help Australia address the lack of local labour for specific skilled roles. Your potential employer must nominate you for a role in either the short-term stream, or the medium/long term stream.
As an applicant, it is important that you meet health and language requirements and have at least 2 years of experience in your nominated field.
Basic Requirements
- must have at least 2 years of experience in field
- must have an employer eligible for sponsorship
- occupation must be listed on the STSOL or the MSSTOL
- must have very good written and verbal English skills
The short-term stream is only valid for 1-2 years (or 4 years if the International Trade Obligation Applies) and can only be renewed once onshore.
The Medium term stream can be valid for 1, 2, 3, or 4 years and can be renewed multiple times. If you are granted a visa under the medium term stream, you might be eligible for permanent sponsorship with employers.
If your occupation is listed in the Regional Occupations List, then you are only able to apply for positions that are in regional areas. Some applicants who are granted a TSS visa in a regional location may be eligible for a permanent Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS ) visa.
If you are granted a TSS visa, you are able to live and work in Australia in your nominated job with your approved sponsor for the approved timeframe. Any approved family members are also permitted to live, work and study in Australia for the same duration as your visa. You are also allowed to travel in and out of Australia during the permitted period.
